Acid attack survivors (Bangladesh)Add to Lightbox Download
In Bangladesh most of the people called them monsters.
But they prefer to be considered survivors.
For me are HEROES.
Disfigured with industrial acid by neighbours, relatives or boyfriends-husbands for economic reasons or senseless jealousies, these people are forced f to survive or years at borders of society.
Often they are considered guilty for their lot, impure creatures to leave in the shadows.
In Bangladesh, like in other countries (for example Cambodia, Colombia, Uganda and recently also Italy), this kind of violence persist.
Using acid, criminals don't want kill, but they prefer erase the identity of their victims by a kind of black mark.
With the support of Acid Survivors Foundation, the project “Heroes” has the goal of maintain high the public attention on these criminal attacks.
Straight portraits, accompanied with single interviews, showing the effects on the skin like signs of a war against violences, but also telling the new life of survivors as messages of hope.
